A RATIONALE FOR GLOBAL EDUCATION

Technology drives societal paradigm shifts at an increasing rate.  Easily accessible world-wide communications and travel have effected global impact on our communities and economies on an unprecedented scale.  Our schools are no exception and should be leading students into the center of the 21st Century with globally relevant lessons which prepare the next generation to function and thrive in competitive global markets.  Students need to be able to communicate, collaborate, think critically and when necessary make decisions based on the experiences gained from a global perspective.  This is not to say participants in a global education give up the values which make us who we are.  Instead, a global education opens constructive dialogues between citizen diplomats who may be an ocean apart but think like neighbors.  Through empathy and respect a global education can enrich the lives of all men and women of peace throughout the world.

What does a globally competent student look like?
